The Haitian National Committee for Restitution and Reparations (CNHRR) responded to French President Emmanuel Macron’s statement. In a note made public just hours after Macron’s announcement of the creation of a joint Franco-Haitian commission of historians from both countries to study “the impact of the heavy financial indemnity” imposed on Haiti in 1825, the CNHRR instead called for a “binational, multidisciplinary commission” with the specific mission of “restitution in all its dimensions.”
